Controlled Automation Cad Conversion Format

The Cad Conversion is an option with the Controlled Automation software and must be purchased.

The following is the file format used by Controlled Automation for its Cad Conversion system when the CADCONV field in the setup is set to 'S'. This file is in ASCII format. Fields are delimited by a space, or newline. Blanks in a field are represented by an underscore. All distance fields are in decimal inches and are 8 chars including the decimal point. Weight field is in decimal pounds and is 8 chars including the decimal point. Only one decimal place is excepted in the Weight field.

Jobid - 10 char max.

Group - 10 char max.

Mark - 10 char max.

Length - distance field

desctp - (EG. W for beams L for angles 2 char max)

Web depth - distance field - (should be the same as in AISC description e.g. 10 for a W 10X45 beam and 4.0 for an L 4" X 3"1/2 X 1/4 angle).

Weight per foot or Short Leg lengthXthickness on Angles - weight or distance X distance field (should be the same as in AISC description e.g. "45" for the weight of a W 10X45 beam, "3.5X0.25" for an L 4" X 3"1/2 X 1/4 angle).

Quantity - 3 chars

Web tool size1 - distance field (SEE BELOW)

Web tool size2 - distance field

Web tool Shape - 2 char max

Top flange near tool size1 - distance field (Top Flange near is the short leg on angle)

Top flange near tool size2 - distance field

Top flange near tool Shape - 2 char max

Top flange far tool size1 - distance field

Top flange far tool size2 - distance field

Top flange far tool Shape - 2 char max

Bottom flange near tool size1 - distance field

Bottom flange near tool size2 - distance field

Bottom flange near tool Shape - 2 char max

Bottom flange far tool size1 - distance field

Bottom flange far tool size2 - distance field

Bottom flange far tool Shape - 2 char max

Number of Operations - 3 chars

All operations are measured from the left end of the material.

For each hole and layout operation there are the following fields:

X position - distance field

U position - distance field (this field is the distance between holes split about the web on near/far BEAM flange holes, twice the distance from the center of the web on single BEAM flange holes and the actual gage on anything else)

Unit - 2 char max

For Stencil and Tool change operations the fields are shown with that operation further along in this document.

The units are defined as follows:

1 Web Hole
6 Web Mark
11 Under Web Layout mark
2 TF near hole
7 TF near mark
3 TF far hole
8 TF far mark
12 TF near/far hole
17 TF near/far mark
4 BF near hole
9 BF near mark
5 BF far hole
10 BF far mark
14 BF near/far hole
19 BF near/far mark
20 WEB Stencil
21 TF Stencil
22 BF Stencil

NOTE: For units 20,21,and 22 there is an aditional field besides the X position U position and Unit. There is also a character string of up to 24 characters specifying what is to be stencilled on the material.

30 Web tool change
31 TF Near tool change
32 TF Far tool change
33 BF Near tool change
34 BF Far tool change

NOTE: For units 30,31,32,33, and 34 the X Position and U Position fields are defined as follows:

X POSITION = New tool SIZE1
U POSITION = New tool SIZE2
The unit field is still the same.
There is an additional field of up to 2 characters containing the New tool Shape.

Hole sizes are as follows. - 13/16 X 1" END RADIUS

SIZE1 SIZE2 SHAPE

0.8125 1.0000 ER

LEGAL HOLE SHAPES ARE

RD - ROUND
OV - OVAL
HE - HORIZONTAL END RADIUS SLOT
VE - VERTICAL END RADIUS SLOT
ER - END RADIUS SLOT
HC- HORIZONTAL CENTER RADIUS SLOT
VC- VERTICAL CENTER RADIUS SLOT
CR - CENTER RADIUS SLOT
SL - END RADIUS SLOT
SQ - SQUARE
RT - RECTANGULAR
HX - HEX

Multiple parts can be in the same file.
